In 1967, a simple man, but full of charisma and big ambitions,
decided to open a small handcraft store in the port of Callao, which
is the main port of his native country Peru. In honor of his ancestors
the Incas, who achieved to have the biggest empire of the ancient
America, this Peruvian man named his store: "Inka Market".
This man was Marcial Villanueva, better known as Marshall by his
American friends, who used to call him by that name, because it was
easier to pronounce. Marcial's original aim was to use the store to
sell wooden and leather handicrafts that he and his children knew
well how to make.
However, within a few years, things were changing for the better
and Marcial's clients, who were mostly tourists and American
Merchant Ships, started to demand a wider range of products. This
inspired Marcial to diversify his line offering other products such
as: textile, pottery, furs, jewelry, and so on. Thus he discovered
there was a big demand and a great potential for Peruvian
handicrafts due to the unique artistic touch given by the Peruvian
Artisans.
After selecting and training different artists about the
importance of the quality of the products, the finishing quality was
improved without raising the prices too much.
The main products with which Inka Market operates are clothes for
ladies as well as for gentlemen, made out of fine alpaca wool and
Peruvian cotton. We also have pottery, jewelry, house ornaments and
much more.
Nowadays, even though Marcial Villanueva, Inka Market's founder
passed away; his company continues on through his children, who
have recently decided to open a store in the United States, named
Inka Line instead of Inka Market.
We invite you to visit
Inka Line store in San Juan Bautista, so that you can discover
the artistic genius of Peruvian hands.
